Summary

In some situations, a CSA environment that is deployed in a Vmware virtual machine can show slowness when to access CSA SMC and MPP portals. This can be resolved by a VMware update.

Question

In some situations, a Cloud Service Automation (CSA) environment that is deployed in a Vmware virtual machine can show slowness when to access CSA SCM and MPP portals. Sometime logging on to and user operations on SMC and MPP take more than 30 sec. The slowness can happen even though:

  • the environment meets the system requirement of CSA
  • CSA is configured with enough Java Heap size
  • there is no error like 'OutOfMemory' found in CSA log files
  • No specific delay is found in DB or network like slow DNS resolution

Answer

This kind of slowness may be related to a Vmware virtual machine and network behavior like:

After upgrading a virtual machine to hardware version 11, network dependent workloads experience performance degradation (2129176)

In a certain CSA 4.6 environment, the slowness was resolved by applying the Vmware update written in the above Vmware article.
